Property description

The soothing decor of the bedrooms, comfortable beds and the finest linen will ensure a good night's sleep. Our rooms are comfortably fitted with double beds, a television set with access to DSTV in all rooms. All rooms have fans, and, heaters are available on request. All meals are served in true country style, with a touch of good home cooking.

Area activities

Biyela Monument:
The Biyela Memorial was put up at the request of the Biyela clan to show their area of origin. It is beyond the Katazo store on the road from Melmoth to Babanango, not far from Dingane's spring. Katazo located on the southern road from Mtonjaneni to Babanango.


Kwa Magwaza Mission Station:
The late Reverend Robert Robertson established the station, 'the place of tall trees', in 1860. Bishop Wilkinson later operated from there. During the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 the station was destroyed, but soon re-established before being destroyed once more in 1884 during the civil disturbances in Zululand. Education facilities and hospitals were developed later. 8 kms south-west of Melmoth, Zululand.

Mthonjaneni Site:
This hill overlooks the Ulundi plain. Dingaans drinking water was brought from it and the Voortrekker laager was situated on it prior to the incident at the Opathe gorge. The British laagered here during the closing stages of the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. The highlands are also north of Melmoth.

Melmoth:

On a sporty note, The Melmoth Country Club offers an interesting game of 9 holes, for the enthusiastic golfer, with a relaxing ladies' pub close by.

Squash and Tennis courts are just a short walk from the B & B placed peacefully around a scenic golf course. Touring / Game park tours are available. Booking is essential.

Driving directions

Melmoth can be found on the R66 or R34, half way between Vryheid and Empangeni, in the heart of Zululand. A map is available here...

If the children stay in their own room we charge the normal rate, if sharing with parents, we charge for their breakfast only. Breakfast rate for Children R25.00. A deposit of 50% on reservation. If cancelled: 0-7 days prior to arrival, forfeit 100% of deposit; 7-14 days prior to arrival, forfeit 75% of deposit; 14-21 days prior to arrival, forfeit 50% of deposit; 21+ days prior to arrival, forfeit 30% of deposit.
