Hippo spotted in St Lucia holiday complex

St Lucia Estuary has a new kid on the block in the form of a hefty young female hippo that has been showing her face in the northern Zululand coastal resort over the past month and has become a new attraction in the area.

At the same time the conservation authorities have cautioned the public and visitors not to provoke the animal, said to be about three or four years old.

UNCANNY similarities between American Indian and African artworks were the subject of discussion in Zululand this week.
Arriving on Monday in Richards Bay , American Indians from around America and sponsored by the Institute of American Indian Art and the WK Kellogg Foundation, were excited about their forthcoming visit to the Zululand region.
Rose Simpson, who does life-size sculptures in clay and is an accomplished potter said one of the most astounding impressions she has had regarding African art and culture, is the likeness to her own culture.

Comfort in the cold

A shivering KwaZulu-Natal can expect more cold weather - but the good news is that the weather office does not expect the extreme conditions of this week.

On Friday, Weatherman Marcel Roux said the cold front, which is expected later on Saturday, would bring rain.

The widespread snow, floods and fires have left many people destitute and without shelter, food and water. Many roads were also closed.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Rajen Chinaboo said all roads were re-opened on Friday and cautioned motorists to be extra careful when driving during rain.
