Construction to start on Golf Course Estate

golf courseThe R300-million Richards Bay Golf Course Estate will be officially launched on 11 March 2006 in conjunction with a sponsored golf day. A scale model of the development, together with detailed plans and reserve prices for the sites will be on view to prospective buyers.

The developer will sell the sites in accordance with a procedure accepted by the Richards Bay Country Club. It is proposed that a closed tender process will be used that will be monitored by independent auditors and a lawyer.

Phase 1, which includes about 120 freehold sites in the northern section of the development, will go out on tender first. Country Club members will get first preference thereafter the remaining sites will be sold to the public on the same tender basis.

Construction on Phase 1 is expected to start next month for completion by October 2006.

Construction of internal services is scheduled to start in April during which time eight golf course holes will be closed and revamped by Matkovich & Hayes, specialist golf course designers.

Ten holes will be in play until November and the revamped holes will be re-introduced over December to provide a full 18-hole course for the duration of the festive season.

In addition, the development also plans a small boutique hotel alongside existing clubhouse use.

This will make better use of the Country Club’s facilities, thus making the development more sustainable.

Layout of the development has been amended to incorporate the recommendations of the Record of Decision issued by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Agriculture at the end of last year. The new layout accommodates hippo movement and grazing patterns on the golf course.
